Victoria — Two members have been appointed to join the Supreme Court Civil and Family Rules committee to offer advice on new projects and rules that may impact British Columbians’ access to justice.
Jennifer Brun, QC, and Krista Simon have been appointed to support the work of the committee for five-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2026.
Brun is a director of Harris and Brun Law Corporation. She represents her clients in both litigation and regulatory contexts before all levels of court in British Columbia and before governing professional bodies and administrative tribunals. Brun’s advice is routinely sought about insurance matters regarding litigation, coverage, subrogation, audits, policy wordings and risk management.
Brun has a bachelor of science, a bachelor of laws and a master of laws specializing in civil litigation and dispute resolution. She also completed a judicial law clerkship at the Supreme Court of British Columbia. She served as president of the Young Lawyers – Canadian Bar Association in 2012-13 and as Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch president in 2020-21. She is a regular contributor and presenter for continuing professional development seminars, including as co-author of the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC practice manual, Discovery Practice in British Columbia.
Simon is a partner with Hammerco Lawyers LLP, which has offices in Vancouver and Courtenay. She is a past president of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC (TLABC) and is a current governor of TLABC. Her areas of practice are personal injury, including sexual assault and sexual abuse claims, and estate litigation. Simon has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia and is primarily a trial lawyer, having conducted both judge alone and jury trials.
Simon is skilled at dispute resolution, having earned a master of laws in dispute resolution at Osgoode Hall Law School, and was trained in mediation at Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation and at Pepperdine University’s Faculty of Law. Simon volunteers with mentorship and pro-bono programs, is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia’s Hearing Panel pool and is active on numerous TLABC committees. She is a long-time Canadian Bar Association member, contributor to the Verdict magazine and a frequent speaker at professional and continuing education conferences.
In addition, Lisa Hamilton, QC, has been reappointed for a five-year term to represent the Law Society of BC. Maureen Lundell, QC, and Lindsay LeBlanc have each been reappointed for three-year terms as members at large.
The Supreme Court Civil and Family Rules committee provides advice and makes recommendations on changes to the Supreme Court Rules. It also advises the Attorney General on issues affecting access to justice that might be addressed through the court rules.
