Metlakatla and Heiltsuk First Nations — The Metlakatla First Nation and the Heiltsuk First Nation are two of thirteen communities across the province that will receive funding for clean energy projects through the BC Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative.

“Our government is working in partnership to cultivate more economic opportunities in clean technology, while improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, “As part of our CleanBC plan, this investment will support First Nations communities in their transition to cleaner energy sources.”

Metlakatla will receive $39,000 to perform a feasibility study on an electric and/or hydrogen ferry, and the Heiltsuk is receiving $150,000 for a heat pump installation.
Through this program, the BC provincial government is supporting communities to develop expertise and experience in energy efficiency and clean energy generation.
