Masset — New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice says vulnerable people in Masset will have greater access to local services which will help tackle homelessness as the community recovers from the impacts of the pandemic.
“The pandemic has placed a strain on the vital supports that are provided to people experiencing homelessness in our community,” said Jennifer Rice, MLA for North Coast. “This new funding will help Old Masset in partnership with the Niislla Naay Healing House Society to expand emergency shelter spaces and enhance their support recovery efforts for people in need.”
Masset is receiving $200,000 in joint provincial and federal funding to expand emergency shelter spaces for community members of Gaw Tlagee which will help enhance supportive recovery efforts for people who are vulnerable.
MLA Jennifer Rice says this investment is part of the Strengthening Communities Program which is providing support to 48 communities across B.C. Over $76 million will support local governments to combat the impacts of homelessness and keep their communities safe and healthy as they recover from the pandemic.
John Horgan and the BC New Democrat government is providing the support people need to build a recovery that leaves no one behind.
